COMMUNITY PUSH SKATE Alley Presented by Vans

Wednesday, September 19th from 6pm - 9pm
Alley Behind Redbull Arts Detroit of Orleans St.
Detroit, MI 48207

Community Push will join the festival roster this year, as director Derrick Dykas and his team will build an entire skatepark from the ground up, filling an entire alley in Eastern Market to create a public skatepark throughout the week of the festival.

Come find out more about the project as local skaters grab their boards and warm up the activation built in the heart of Eastern Market behind the Red Bull House of Art and opened to the public during the 4th annual Murals in the Market festival.

Detroit non-profit Community Push is the sum of a thriving skateboard scene that wanted more. In August of 2014, a group of skateboarders banded together with a goal in mind: to give Detroit a multi-function alternative recreation facility to be designed, built, and maintained by the community, for the community. Within a year's time, “The Wig,” an outdoor “Do It Yourself” skate park, took shape in a way nobody saw coming. Over 100 volunteers contributed thousands of hours of labor to create a place to call home, and friends like Levi’s and Red Bull pitched in along the way too. Since Community Push’s inception, we have grown to become skateboarding’s voice in the loud room that is the rebirth of Detroit. From giving a kid their first board to advising city government on its own skate park project, we’re here to progress skateboarding in the City of Detroit.
